TD Jakes twists the truth to justify a position he chooses to accept. The truth is that as Christians, we are all spiritual Israelites (Gal. 3:28-29) which means that God's law is as relevant to us as it was to the Israelites of the Old Testament. The thing to understand is that keeping the law doesn't save us. God's grace alone saves us (Ephesians 2:8-9, 10) and we receive that gift of salvation by accepting Christ as our personal Savior (from the penalty, bondage and guilt of our sins) and Lord (over our lives, subjecting ourselves to Him in love).

Attackers spread false claims that Seventh-day Adventists worship the Sabbath, however this is just a misunderstanding of the truth. As a Bible student (who is a member of a Seventh-day Adventist church), I understand that the Sabbath is far more than just a day to keep holy. It is God's signature (seal) on His Ten Commandment Law; a symbol that reveals to the world that He is our Creator, Sustainer and Ruler of all things. It is a sign that we accept that He is the God who makes us holy (Exodus 31:13-17; Ezekiel 20:12-20), which is what separates those who truly accept Him verses those who are directly or indirectly worshiping symbols of pagan gods. As it was in ancient times with God's people, it remains now. This degree of holiness is something we must all desire and learn to take from the Sabbath throughout the rest of the week.

As far as choosing one day for worship with other believers, reference Leviticus 23:1-3 (The LORD said to Moses, "Speak to the Israelites and say to them: 'These are my appointed feasts, the appointed feasts of the LORD, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies." 'There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a Sabbath to the LORD.

When announcing the feast days (annual sabbaths), God was clear to separate the weekly Sabbath before announcing the actual feast days. Verse four begins, 'These are the LORD's appointed feasts, the sacred assemblies you are to proclaim at their appointed times:". At that point, God then reveals the annual feasts of the Passover, Unleavened Bread, Firstfruits, Feast of Weeks, Feast of Trumpets, Day of Atonement & Feast of Tabernacles. These were annual feasts that were a part of the Ceremonial Law of Moses that stood against the Isrealites, which Moses wrote in a book and was placed on the outside of the Ark of the Covenant (Deuteronomy 31:26). This is in contrast to the Constitution of God's kingdom, the Ten Commandments, which were written by the finger of God on stone (twice for emphasis) and was placed inside the Ark of the Covenant (Deuteronomy 4:13; 9:10; 1 Kings 8:9) and was seen in heaven (Revelation 11:19).

The Ceremonial Law is what was nailed to the Cross (Colossians 2:13-17). These laws contained shadows/types of things to come (Christ) because of the need to defeat sin, but the seventh-day Sabbath existed before sin, therefore before the shadows/types were instituted.

We can only pray that when God calls His people out of spiritual Babylon (Revelation 18:4) and into His one true church (John 10:16), TD Jakes and others who teach a "different" gospel will heed the call and accept God's truth. This is a difficult choice for many because it will mean losing their jobs and wealth. But when it comes down to choosing God or wealth, we're reminded of Matthew 6:24, "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money" (NIV).
